Beginning with the 5th of February, the Public Services Agency will issue new type passports

The Public Services Agency will issue new type passports beginning with the 5th of February, 2018.  The new documents will have a higher degree of protection, and also a new design. Their informational content corresponds to the international requirements and the legislation in the field of personal data protection. These allow the processing of biometric data and digital signature.

The new design of the Republic of Moldova citizen's passport includes images of the monuments and tourist attractions in the country, such as: the Triumphal Arch, the Metropolitan Cathedral Bell Tower in Chisinau, the monument of Stefan the Great, the National History Museum building, the Orheiul Vechi museum complex and Capriana Monastery.

According to the director of the Public Services Agency, Sergiu Railean, the price of the new document and the term of its validity remain unchanged. The citizens, holding old passports can use them until the expiration date.

The list of necessary documents and information relating to the procedure, charges and fees for obtaining the passport can be viewed by clicking /ro/pasaportul-cetateanului-rm/termen-si-tarife-eliberarea-pasaportului , or by dialing the phone number 14909 (local tariff). The application for the issuance of the Moldovan citizen's passport may be submitted to any Identity documents office, irrespective of the place of registration at the domicile or at the residence of the applicant.

We remind that at the end of 2017, the Government endorsed a bill for amending and completing the Law no. 273-XIII of 09.11.1994 on the identity documents of the national passport system. The document provides for the extension of the validity period of the Republic of Moldova citizen's passport from 7 to 10 years for persons over the age of 16. Currently, the draft is in Parliament for examination.

At the same time, we mention that in connection with the launch of the new passport for production on the 5th of February, the reception of requests for services regarding the issuance of the Republic of Moldovan citizen passport under emergency regime is suspended (within 1,3,6,24 hours).

The new biometric passports are implemented in the context of the implementation of the National Program for Implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan on visa liberalization, according to the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and ensures the free movement of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
