Meeting with representatives of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe

At the request of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Public Service Agency held a meeting with representatives of the OSCE Election Observation Mission to the Republic of Moldova on October 12, 2020.

During the meeting, the responsibilities of the Public Services Agency were discussed in the context of the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova to be held on November 1, 2020. The PSA specialists presented the information on the Agency’s activity during the elections on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as well as in the context of the presidential elections to be held on 01.11.2020.

At the same time, the aspects of the interaction of the State Register of Population with the State Register of Voters were discussed, in particular, the way of their updating. The information on providing the citizens of the Republic of Moldova with identity documents for participation in the elections was presented, as well as some statistical data according to the State Population Register. The agenda included  important issues related to the existing impediments in the process of updating the State Register of Population (death of a person in another state, exchange of information between the two banks of the Nistru River on personal data of individuals, including their death, etc.), as well as the conditions  for ensuring the issuance of  identity documents necessary for voting to citizens, who are in a medical institution or in quarantine/isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs. Marcela Maskova, Electoral Analyst at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, expressed her gratitude to the PSA executive board and specialists for organizing the meeting, presenting relevant information and stressed the importance of ODIHR cooperation with the authorities directly involved in conducting the elections in order to promote security, democracy, human rights and compliance with the OSCE commitments.

The executive board of the Public Services Agency, Mr. Vladislav Zara, Director of the PSA, and Mrs. Tatiana Cunetchi, First Deputy Director of the PSA, thanked the OSCE representatives for the visit and reiterated the importance of dialogue and further development of co-operation between the Public Services Agency and international representatives of the OSCE.
