Theoretical test

The theoretical test shall be carried out on the basis of an automated information system, with the exception of the option to perform it manually, using the specialized questionnaires.

For the individuals who passed the theoretical test during the period 17.03.2019 - 16.03.2020 with the qualification mark “Pass”, the validity of the theoretical test was extended by 150 days (60 days the emergency periods and 90 days according to the GD no. 312 of 20.05.2020 on the regulation of some aspects related to the procedure of drivers’ examination and issuance of driver’s documents).

The examination of individuals during the theoretical test for obtaining a driving licence shall be conducted, as follows:

  • for the categories A, B, B + E, H, F, I and subcategories A1, B1, a single questionnaire of knowledge on the traffic rules, first aid and road safety concepts, as well as the aspects of auto mechanics shall be provided;
  • for the categories C, C + E and subcategories C1, C1 + E, a questionnaire of knowledge on the traffic rules, first aid and road safety concepts, and the aspects of auto mechanics, as well as a questionnaire with the specific rules for the category C shall be provided;
  • for the categories D, D + E and subcategories D1, D1 + E a questionnaire of knowledge on the traffic rules, first aid and road safety concepts, and the aspects of auto mechanics, as well as a questionnaire with specific rules for the category D shall be provided.

Theoretical test of the examination shall be carried out in computer examination classrooms of the competent subdivisions, using the automated information subsystem “Examination class”.

The theoretical test carried out with the use of the automated information subsystem “Examination class”, consists in choosing and marking the answer/answers considered to be correct on the monitor of the automated examination place.

The results of the theoretical test shall be drawn up by the computer, according to the Annex to the form for the theoretical test of the exam for obtaining the driving license, according to Annex no. 1 to the Instructions.

Examination of the applicants for the theoretical test for obtaining the right to drive vehicles shall be carried out according to the provisions of points 11-17 of the Instructions, as follows:

  1. for the categories A, B, BE and H and subcategories A1, A2 and B1 a single questionnaire consisting of 20 questions on the traffic rules, principles of driving a vehicle and road safety and the first aid procedures shall be provided;
    The examination lasts 25 minutes. To “Pass” the candidate has to answer correctly to at least 18 questions;
  2. for the categories C and CE and subcategories C1 and C1E a questionnaire composed of the questionnaire of knowledge on the traffic rules, principles of driving a vehicle and road safety and the first aid procedures consisting of 20 questions and the questionnaire on the specific rules for the category C and subcategory C1 consisting of 6 questions (a total of 26 questions) shall be provided;
    The examination lasts 33 minutes. To “Pass” the candidate has to answer correctly to at least 23 questions;
  3. for the category F, categories D and DE and subcategories D1 and D1E a questionnaire composed of the questionnaire of knowledge on traffic rules, principles of driving a vehicle and road safety and the first aid procedures consisting of 20 questions and the questionnaire on the specific rules for the categories F and D and subcategory D1 consisting of 6 questions (a total of 26 questions) shall be provided;
    The examination lasts 33 minutes. To “Pass” the candidate has to answer correctly to at least 23 questions;
  4. if the candidate requires the simultaneous examination for obtaining the right to drive vehicles in the categories/subcategories CE and D or C1E and D1, he/she shall pass a single theoretical test and shall be provided with a questionnaire composed of the questionnaire of knowledge on traffic rules, principles of driving a vehicle and road safety and the first aid procedures consisting of 20 questions and a questionnaire on the specific rules for the categories C and D, and respectively for the subcategories C1 and D1 consisting of 6 questions each (a total of 32 questions);
    The examination lasts 41 minutes. To “Pass” the candidate has to answer correctly to at least 28 questions;
