The 18th Congress of the European Association of Registrars was held at the end of last week in Iasi, Romania. Although the Republic of Moldova is not a member of the organization, Diana Tacu, the Head of the General Directorate of Civil Status of the Public Services Agency participated in the event as a guest of the host country.
The topics discussed at the congress focused on the new European General Data Protection Regulation and Citizens' rights with regard to the processing of personal data by the registrars. At the session the PSA representative made a presentation about the National Civil Status System as part of the Public Services Agency. The changes that occurred in the activity of the Civil Status Service after the implementation of the Public Services Reform and formation of Multifunctional Centers were also mentioned.
The European Association of Registrars is the only profile professional association in Europe with the status of consultant of the European Commission. It was founded in 2000 in Germany and comprises associations of registrars from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, and Scotland. The successes of the organization include the implementation of multilingual civil status certificates and EU Regulation 2016/1191 on promoting the free movement of citizens by simplifying the requirements for presenting certain public documents in the European Union.
