Almost 3000 citizens have requested passports with extended validity

12.10.2018 17:35

Within two days of the entry into force of the amendments to the Law no. 273-XIII of November 9, 1994 on identity documents of the National Passport System 2940 persons requested the issuance of passports with extended validity. 602 citizens who have filed requests for expedited document issuance have already received their passports.

On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, the legislative amendments on extension of the validity of the passports for citizens aged 16 from 7 to 10 years came into force. The prices for document issuance have remained unchanged. The validity of passports for children under the age of 7 is still 4 years and that for minors aged from 7 to 16 years is 7 years.

Also, when requesting identity documents, citizens don’t have to submit the document certifying the blood group. Previously, obtaining of this document implied time wasted to visit the medical center and money expenses. The service to determine the blood group in most cases is provided for a fee, while the service of issuing the first identity card to citizens of the Republic of Moldova is offered free of charge.

Starting October 10, 2018 all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in the country, who have reached the age of 16, are obliged by law to have an identity card. Thus, the Public Services Agency urges parents and teachers of pre-university education institutions to help ensure that pupils, who reach the age of 16 during the school year, are issued with identity cards. The PSA makes this appeal in order to comply with the law and avoid the increase in the number of requests for identity cards, which is attested during May-June period, when students apply for the identity cards to be admitted to the gymnasium graduation exam.

With the entry into force of the new amendments, the persons who have legally emigrated and permanently reside on the territory of other states, but for some reasons stay temporarily on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, may request a provisional identity card.

Detailed information on the list of necessary documents, deadlines, tariffs and fees for the issuance of identity documents may be found out on the Public Services Agency website: www.asp.gov.md or by dialling the phone numbers 14 909 and (022) 257-070.
