Today, November 7, 2022, 12 new Škoda Scala cars intended for use in the process of practical test for category B were officially transmitted at the office of Driver Qualification Division of the Public Services Agency (PSA). The total cost of vehicles purchased by the PSA is 3.6 million lei.
“The Public Services Agency is going through an ambitious reform: from draft laws on amending some legislative acts, aimed at improving the provision of public services by digitizing their delivery processes, up to the modernization of the institution’s infrastructure, in which nothing has been invested for many years. In the context of bringing the national driving licence in line with European standards, starting 01.01.2022, the requirements regarding the technical parameters of the vehicles used by the PSA in the examination process have been harmonized with the provisions of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council. Thus, the Public Services Agency has planned for the year 2023 the procurement of 33 more vehicles to be used in practical tests for all categories, with a total value of about 29 million lei”, Mircea Esanu, Director of the Public Services Agency, said at the opening of the event.
Currently, the 11 Driver Qualification Divisions of the Public Services Agency have a fleet of 77 vehicles used in the examination procedure, which is insufficient for the large number of applicants for obtaining a driving licence. During 2021, 74695 persons applied to the specialized subdivisions of the PSA for the provision of examination services, and from the beginning of 2022 - 66028 persons.
With the modernization of the PSA infrastructure and the application of new provisions of the Regulation on the examination procedure for obtaining the right to drive vehicles, which came into force on May 10, 2022, the waiting time for passing the driving test was reduced from 60 days, as it was before, to two weeks (regular procedure) and a few days (expedited procedure).
