During the year 2022, in the context of the events in Ukraine, a significant increase in the number of applicants for the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova was attested. According to data from the State Register of Population, compared to 2021, in 2022 the number of applications for citizenship of the Republic of Moldova increased from 7168 to 10799.
Under these circumstances, it was decided that citizens should have the possibility to apply for the acquisition and restoration of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova to all multifunctional centers in the country and in Chisinau municipality. Previously, concerning the municipality of Chisinau, applications could only be submitted to the Citizenship Division of the Public Services Agency (42 Pushkin Street).
Thus, starting January 3, 2023, the multifunctional centers in the municipality of Chisinau (no. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) will provide the full spectrum of services relating to citizenship, namely they will receive applications for:
- acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by recognition;
- acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by naturalization;
- restoring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
- repealing the Decree or a part of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova regarding the approval of renunciation of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
- determination of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
- Issuing the certificate regarding the belonging or non-belonging of persons to the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
