The global market of electric vehicles has seen an exponential growth over the last decade. According to the data of the International Energy Agency (IEA), about 55 thousand electric vehicles were sold all over the world in 2011. Ten years later, in 2021, the figure increased to around 7 million vehicles.
The trend can be observed in the Republic of Moldova, too. Thus, in 2021, 1132 electric vehicles and 26265 hybrid vehicles were registered in the State Register of Transports of the Public Services Agency. In 2022, the fleet of electric vehicles registered by the PSA already consisted of 1973 electric vehicles and 31643 hybrid vehicles.
Recently, the Executive body made a series of amendments to Law no. 139/2018 on energy efficiency. One of the stated objectives is to popularize e-mobility and encourage other traffic participants to opt for such means of transport with low emission.
After the respective legislative project is voted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the Public Services Agency will individualize electric vehicles with special licence plates, which have a white background and green symbols (letters and numbers).
By introducing special licence plates for electric vehicles, the Republic of Moldova will join other countries, where the measure has already been applied for several years, such as: Norway, China, Great Britain, Canada, etc.
